Rafael Nadal wins the Australian Open tennis tournament

Rafael Nadal is a top tennis player from Spain. He won the Australian Open tennis tournament this week. The Australian Open is one of the world’s biggest tennis tournaments. There was a prize of $2 million for the winner of the tournament.


The Australian Open is considered a ‘Grand Slam’. There are four ‘Grand Slam’ events every year, including the French Open, the US Open and Wimbledon. Nadal won his 21st ‘Grand Slam’ event this week, which means he has won more championships than any other player.


Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have won 20 ‘Grand Slam’ events. They will try to catch-up to Nadal in the tennis events later this year.
